	北海North Seaに面したロビンフッズ・ベイRobin Hood's Bayという漁村です。無論、ロビンフッズベイの"Robin Hood"は、あの中世の誉れ高きアウトローに由来しています。伝説によれば、いざというときの脱出用のボートを、この小さな漁村に隠していたそうです。そういった素敵な名前の漁村ですが、漁村自体も名前負けしない美しさです。なにせ、こんな辺鄙な場所ながら、B&Bの数が、この村の人気の程を伺わせてくれています。そういう私も、この漁村の虜になりました。下の写真は、手前の部落が、隣接しているファイリングソープ村Fylingthorpeで、北海に面した方が、ロビンフッドの漁村になります。ちょっと小さいので、わかりませんが、西日に照らされた赤い屋根の家並みと北海の紺碧とのコントラストは、言葉では表現できないほど美しいものでした。ヨークシャーに行かれる方は、要チェックですぞ。いや、行かねばならない場所です。 　さて、ロビンフッドと云えば、シャーウッドの森Sherwood Forest（中世時代のオークの広大な森は、英国海軍の軍艦や、家具として伐採されつくされ、現在、ほとんど名残りを留めていない。）があるノッティンガム州Nottinghamshire ひいては、ミッドランドThe Midlandsを普通、連想します。実際、ノッティンガムの人がアメリカ旅行に行って、「あんた、どこから来たん？」「シャーウッドの森のノッティンガムさ。」「ああ、あのロビンフッドのかい。」というような会話が、普通に成り立つそうです。（ノッティンガム在住の人の体験談より。）云ってみれば、俺が町のヒーローであり、ノッティンガムNottinghamの街は、ロビンフッド一色です。でも、実際はヨークシャーYorkshireの方に、ロビンフッドの名残りが多く見受けられます。有名なファウウンテンズ・アビーFountan's Abbeyの泉水、ヨークYorkの聖マリア寺院St. Mary's Abbey、Kirklees Prioryの近くにあるロビンフッドのお墓、ロビンフッドの出生地と噂されるウェイクフィールドWakefield周辺には、いくつかロビンフッド繋がりの地名が、そして、このロビンフッドの漁村。と、いずれもノッティンガムより北のヨークシャーに存在します。まあ、歴史学者によると、ロビンフッドのモデルとなったアウトローは、一人ではなかったそうですが、いずれにしても、今もってロビンフッドの足跡は、はっきりしません。私的には、謎のままの方がアウトローらしくて、いいんじゃないかと思っています。
